After she opened the door, Jilleen stepped inside her husband’s semi-private quarters. “James?” she called out his name thinking he was sleeping behind the privacy curtains of his bunk. There was no answer. She closed the door behind her, and walked over to the bunk and opened the curtains. The bunk was empty. It was a relief. She had a little bit more time.

In The Caprican
President Pierce? Admiral to Speak at Aeries Veterans Conference at Delphi

Almost like old times

WHO: Jilleen Simmons, Jake Mackenzie, James Chase
WHERE: Her apartment in Athens Park, Caprica
WHEN: Toward the end of the Avalon's liberty call on Bridget Mackenzie's birthday.

"Where are you James?" she said to herself before she pressed call on her phone. Her husband went to the market to get some steaks and a few more things to grill out in the patio. He should have been back by now. Jilleen had to take a last-minute conference call with the chief of staff for Admiral Pierce who arrived on Caprica this morning for the Quorum hearings in two days.

She heard the sound of his ringtone in the other room. "James are you here?" She walked into his den and saw the blue glow of his phone on the desk, but James was nowhere to be found. He left for the market without his phone. She believed that had been his intention, no doubt. He knew she did not want to meet Jake alone when he arrived, but he had argued it would be best if she did. Part of her agreed with him, but she was nervous to see Bridget's widower.

Jilleen waited on the phone to leave a voice message. "Asshole," she said into the mic and then pressed the end call button. She was not furious with him, just did not like being set up.

Jake had to admit to a trace of nervousness at seeing Jill again, the first time since the public memorial service for Bridget and her family after they'd been killed by that frakking drunk. She'd been pretty clear in her silence afterward that she wasn't interested in keeping their friendship alive.

Maybe it had just been too much for her, Jake had theorized at the time. Jill had known Bridget since they'd been young girls after all, and they'd been very close friends. He chuckled to himself at the memory of how horrified she'd been when he'd started dating Bridget. She'd loosened up eventually, but he had to laugh about it now.

He rang the doorbell and waited for James or Jilleen to open it.

It's been a while )

Charity Evening

She squeezed her husband's hand.

The light instrumental music played in the background was mostly drowned out by the chatter of people speaking to each other at the tables as the last of the desserts were served. Jilleen wearing a black silky evening gown sat next to her handsome husband who wore a smart black suit and tie.

Message for Major Jake Mackenzie

From the white leather couch in the living room of her apartment, Jilleen proof read the message she wrote on the e-tablet. A message she neglected to send to an old friend when he first arrived to Caprica over a day ago. She made a load of excuses over the last few months why she should not write to him. Jilleen known him for years, and even considered him a friend long before he married her best great friend.

James had said it to her that morning before he left for Delphi. “Jill, talk to him. Jake loved Bridget as much as you loved her. Don't let her death, split apart the two people she loved back.” As usual, James clarity of vision helped her again.

Dear Jake,

Please come see me before Avalon leaves Caprica. I have one more day of leave, and then I'm here for a few more days with Admiral Pierce before we return to Sagittaron. It makes me ill to think that I had not been a good friend to you since our dear Bridget's journey to the Fields of Elysian. It is truly difficult and I had not been fair to you.

We both loved her so much.

Her birthday is soon. Instead of mourning, let us celebrate the day she entered this world. We owe her that much.

Love & Friends always,

Jill

Jilleen pressed send on the e-tablet, and then sniffed and wiped the moisture at the edge of her eyes. She still grieved for Bridget after all this time. Her death had been so sudden and tragic.

She earned the Most Improved Plebe Award her first year. Jill became a member of the secret society of the Praetorian Order her senior year; a very well connected network of members at the highest levels.

Flight Career. TMSA was not a technical academy that qualified or trained pilots for advanced military space planes, it only offered pre-flight training. She attended Tauron Fleet Aviation School to complete her advance flight training before being qualified for Colonial Fleet flight duty. Specialized in fighters. An average viper pilot. Grand Avenue

"Armistice Station? I think not. I rather slit my own throat than be assigned to that post," Jilleen shook her head and then looked back at her brother. She caught a glimpse of the city park as the limousine they were in continued down the avenue. "Anyway why would I want to sit on my ass waiting to talk to a toaster that never shows. I doubt we'll ever see a Cylon ever again."

"I would not share that view of the Cylons with Dad. As a matter of fact, don't share that with anyone in the press, they would have a field day if they knew my little sister thought that the Cylons were no longer a threat. Some might think you're soft on defense."

Beyond the Blue.

The roar above made Jilleen immediately look upward into the blue and cloudless sky of Aerilon, just as a pair of Mark VII vipers flew overhead. The aviator inside her could not resist the temptation to sight and watch flying aircraft for at least a moment. The two vipers split apart from each other as the lead one arched into a left turn to descend onto the runway, and then to be followed by the other a few beats later.

Father's Daughter

30 Days before the decommissioning of Galactica – Colony of Aerilon.

“Thank you so very much that was kind of you, Mister Weatherspoon,” Jilleen reached for his outreached hand with both of hers for a two-handed shake. Mr. Weatherspoon was an old friend of her father. “Mother would have been so pleased with your gift to the foundation.”

“Your mother’s commitment to the environment had given us a worthy cause in preserving Aerilon’s wild lands for future generations. I’m happy to be of service, Miss Simmons.” The gray hair gentleman in a black tuxedo placed his free hand on top hers for a gentle pat, before letting go of the handshake.

“Yes it is a worthy cause,” said Jilleen who wore a soft blue formal gown for the fundraising charity party. “You know my brother is committed as much as my mother was to the environment and that will be reflected in his policies if he is elected.” She noticed Mr. Weatherspoon gaze had drift beyond her and then she felt a hand on her shoulder.
